Notes
A built-in scratch pad for quick notes, code snippets, and drafts that lives right inside your workspace. Notes persist across sessions and are stored as Markdown files in your project's configuration directory.
Where Notes lives
Notes is a card in the project sidebar, like Git or Attach: open it from the sidebar's + menu, move it between the sidebar's two columns, resize it, close it. It ships switched off, and where you put it is remembered for that project.
The card is offered wherever there are notes to show, which means a project tab: not on a drawing, a browser tab or the welcome tab. Switching Notes off in Preferences > Notes takes the card away everywhere, and switching it back on brings it back where it was.
Creating Notes
Add a new note from the Notes card or use Cmd+Shift+N from anywhere in the workspace. Each note has a title, body, and optional tags. The body supports full Markdown formatting.
Tags
Organize notes with custom tags. Nexion ships with four default tags:
- •Bug
- •Todo
- •Idea
- •Reference
Tags are fully customizable in Preferences > Notes: you can create your own tags with custom colors and icons.
Filtering & Search
Filter your notes by tag or search across all note titles and content. The filter bar at the top of the Notes card lets you quickly narrow down to what you need.
Reordering
Drag any note to reorder it. The custom order is persisted in the note's YAML frontmatter, so it survives across sessions and is preserved when the project is opened on a different machine.
Attachments
Attach files to any note: screenshots, logs, documents, or any other reference material. Attachments are stored alongside your notes in the .nexion/scratchpad/attachments/ directory and persist across sessions.
- •Drag & drop: Drop files anywhere on the Notes panel or drag files from the Finder sidebar directly onto a note.
- •Add files button: Use the "Add files" button in the note editor to browse and attach files via the system file picker.
- •Attachment gallery: View all attachments with file icons, sizes, and metadata. Click to open, or right-click for Open, Show in Finder, and Remove options.
- •Drag reordering: Rearrange attachments within a note using drag and drop.
- •Duplicate detection: Duplicate files are detected by filename when adding attachments.
- •Attachment-only notes: Notes can contain only attachments without text content.
- •IPC support: Add or remove attachments programmatically via
notes.attachandnotes.detachIPC methods.
Use in Prompt
Right-click any note and select Use in prompt to send its content directly to the terminal. If the note has attachments, their file paths are automatically appended as @path references, so AI agents can access both the text and the attached files in a single prompt.
Markdown Preview
Notes support Markdown formatting. Toggle between the editor and a rendered preview to see your notes with headings, code blocks, lists, links, and other Markdown elements.
Storage
Notes are stored as individual Markdown files with YAML frontmatter in the .nexion/scratchpad/ directory inside your project root:
.nexion/scratchpad/
├── note-abc123.md
├── note-def456.md
└── ...Each file contains metadata (title, tags, creation date, order) in the frontmatter and the note body as Markdown. Because they are plain files, they can be version-controlled alongside your project.

Preferences
Notes can be enabled or disabled in Preferences > Notes. The same panel lets you manage your custom tags: add, rename, change colors and icons, or remove tags you no longer need.
