Git Integration
Nexion provides full Git operations directly in the workspace, so you can stage, commit, push, and manage branches without leaving the app or switching to a separate Git client.
Status
The Git panel shows a comprehensive status overview:
- •Current branch name and default branch
- •Counts for staged, modified, and untracked files
- •Ahead/behind count relative to the remote tracking branch
- •Lines added and removed per file
File Views
Toggle between two file listing modes:
- •Flat view: Shows full file paths in a single list for quick scanning.
- •Tree view: Collapsible directory structure with badge counts showing how many changes are in each directory.
Staging
Stage and unstage individual files directly from the Git panel. Click a file's checkbox to toggle its staging status. When committing, if you have unstaged changes the commit sheet offers to auto-stage them before committing.
Diff Viewer
Click any changed file to view its diff with full syntax highlighting. Two display modes are available, configurable in Git preferences:
- •Side-by-side: Old and new versions displayed next to each other.
- •Inline: Additions and removals interleaved in a single column.
Diffs can open in the preview pane (default) or in a separate floating window: choose your preferred mode in Git preferences.
Commit Sheet
The commit sheet provides multiple commit workflows:
- •Commit only: Create a commit without pushing.
- •Commit & Push: Commit and immediately push to the remote.
- •Commit & Create PR: Commit, push, and open a pull request.
AI-Powered Features
Nexion uses your configured AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Codex / ChatGPT, Gemini, or GitHub Models) to assist with Git workflows. Each feature can use a different model, configured individually in Preferences > Bots.
- • AI Commit Messages: Generate a commit message from your staged diff with one click. The AI analyzes your changes and returns a descriptive message.
- • AI Diff Summary: Get a high-level bullet-point summary of all your changes before committing, making it easier to review what you have modified across all files.
- • AI PR Description: Auto-generate a pull request title and description from the diff when creating a PR.
Commit History
Browse the full commit history of your repository directly inside Nexion. The commit history panel provides:
- •Full commit log: Scrollable list of all commits in the current branch with search.
- •Detail view: Click any commit to see its full message, author, date, and hash.
- •Interactive diff browser: View file-by-file changes for each commit with full syntax highlighting.
Branch Management
Switch between local and remote branches, or create new branches directly from the Git panel. The branch selector shows all available branches and lets you check out any of them instantly.
PR Creation
Create pull requests through the integrated gh CLI. Nexion provides a UI for filling in the PR title, description, and target branch, then calls gh pr create under the hood. The description can be auto-generated by AI.
GitHub Issues
A dedicated card in the right sidebar shows GitHub issues for the project's tracked repository. Sign in once with the OAuth device flow and the card unlocks for every repo you have access to.
- •Browse: scrollable list with status icons, labels, assignees, and comment counts.
- •Filter: state (open / closed / all), full-text search, and multi-select label filter.
- •Detail view: master / detail in-card. Click an issue to read the body, comments, and metadata without losing your place in the list.
- •Create: file a new issue with title, body, labels, and assignees from a sheet inside the card.
- •Toggle state: close or reopen an issue in one click. The UI updates optimistically and rolls back if the API call fails.
- •Offline-first: cached under
.nexion/issues/in the project root with ETag-based polling, so the card stays usable when offline and refreshes when network is back.
Remote Operations
Push, pull, and fetch operations run through a real PTY. The PTY is what unlocks:
- •SSH key authentication, including passphrase-protected keys and
SSH_ASKPASSprompts that fail under most GUI Git clients - •1Password SSH agent with biometric unlock prompts
- •GPG-signed commits when
commit.gpgsignis configured
